Carlin looked down at Iva. “Now you know the entire sorted, dirty story.”

“Wow, that’s crazy. What happened after that?”

“Rachel pulled Alexander onto the patio and told him. We heard him yell and watched as she ran into back into the Inn. She and her friends packed their shit, and they all left.”

“That’s rough,” Iva said.

“The worst part was, she never said it was me. When Tobias and I went to check on him, I told him I was sorry and that I didn’t know who she was when she came onto me in the diner.” Carlin sat up slightly. “He looked at me with such hatred, but didn’t say a word to me. He announced to the family that the wedding was off without an explanation.”

Iva laid in the bed looking at the ceiling as she tried to take in all that Carlin had told her when she thought about the baby, “Do you think the baby is yours?”

“I have never slept with a woman without a condom.” Carlin said.

“But you know they are not one hundred percent?”

“I thought about that and I asked her the night she showed up at the Vineyard, but she denied it was mine. I arranged for Alex to have a paternity test done. I called in a few favors and had them put a rush on it. We found out that the child isn’t related to us.”

“Wow, that’s a lot,” Iva said as she sat up.

“Do you want to get something to eat?” Carlin asked, wanting to change the subject.

“I need to get home,” she said as she turned to him with a smile. “But first I need to take another shower.” She said as she stood.

A smirk appeared on Carlin’ face. “Do you want to share?”

“No thank you, I need to get home and if we shower again, I may not get home until tomorrow.”

Carlin’ phone buzzed. He swung his feet and planted them on the floor. He picked up the phone and sent the call to voicemail. “Okay, but I was thinking about our planet and how conserving water helps,” he said with a smile.

Iva noticed that was the second time he sent a call to voicemail.

Iva took a shower and started getting dressed when Carlin’s phone rang again. He quickly sent it to voicemail again. “Somebody is really blowing up your phone, is everything okay?” she asked as she continued to get dressed.

“No, not really,” he said as he placed his phone back onto the nightstand. “It’s Alex, he was looking for you.”
